If you are an LPN it will take you 2 years to become RN then you can go on and study by taking classes online to become BSN while working as RN.
If you do not yet hold a RN license, you will probably not find a 100% online nursing program. You will have to sit classroom time and complete clinical rotations, have skills labs, etc which must be done on campus. You may be able to take most or all of your general eds and pre-req courses online, except you will need a biology and chem and A&P lab, which also must be done on campus. This is true regardless if you are going into a 2 year associates or a 4 year BS/BA program.
If you earn your 2 year RN and want to go for RN to BSN, look for locally based colleges and universities, especially the state schools – they will be accredited. Many of them offer online RN to BSN programs, or will offer many of the courses online at least. You will still have clinicals to arrange for Public Health and possibly other courses like Family Health, so when the school is in-state they have contacts to help you do this. Plus, state or public schools will have cheaper tuition than private programs, or having to pay out-of-state tuition rates.
When I completed my BSN I used one of my state universities. Although I had problems completing my gen ed requirements, because although they offered my nursing courses online, the school had a very poor selection of online courses in all other areas. So I had to get creative and use other colleges for those courses and transfer the credits in – a very difficult process to navigate to ensure they transferred properly.
So that’s my advice. Start locally. Even if the local state college or university doesn’t openly advertise an online program, it doesn’t hurt to call and ask them. There might be something in development that might be up and running by the time you’re ready to use it.
There is NO program that will grant you the BSN on-line…unless you are ALREADY an RN from an AA or Diploma program…called a bridge option. You simply cannot get around clinical requirements on a computer.
So, if you are an RN, you can do any of several BSN degrees on line.
If you are not already an RN, you cannot get a BSN on line.

If you're not yet having a degree in RN, you will not be able to find a 100% online nursing program. State requires that you have clinical training before it will allow you to take NCLEX exam to qualify you as a nurse.

If you are working as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN), it is a very natural progression to move from LPN or LVN to registered nurse (RN).
Many online RN to BSN programs come about over the years to provide RNs with ADN or Associate’s Degree in Nursing, however only a few of them were accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education or CCNE. Accreditation is important to any coursework to attest the quality of education being given by the institution.
